A memorial plaque was unveiled in Bykhov in honor of the fallen soldier Sergei Korobov

3 October 2023

Representatives of the authorities, the deputy corps, the public, youth, internationalist soldiers gathered in secondary school No. 1 in Bykhov to fulfill an honorable and responsible mission - to open a memorial plaque in memory of the graduate of this school , Sergei Korobov, who died while serving in Afghanistan.

Time has chosen us - this is what the soldiers and officers of the Great Patriotic War said when they went into battle for their Motherland, for our people. This is exactly what the internationalist soldiers said when they fulfilled their military duty in Afghanistan. Sergei Korobov also thought so when he volunteered to take part in hostilities in the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan.

Without the past there is no present and there can be no future. After all, as long as we remember, we live. The ceremonial meeting was opened by the chairman of the district executive committee, Dmitry Martinovich.

“Veterans of the Great Patriotic War are passing away, but they are passing the baton to internationalist soldiers, who also fulfilled their military duty and are now engaged in an important, responsible matter - the patriotic education of youth,” Dmitry Vasilyevich emphasized, “the current young generation remembers their heroes, and he have someone to look up to. A living example is the courage and heroism of people who defended civilians and defended the interests of their country. An ordinary soldier, a faithful son of the Fatherland, Sergei Korobov gave his life so that people would live in a peaceful country and not know what war is.”

Fulfilling his international duty, Sergei Korobov took part in military operations several times and repeatedly came under fire from dushmans. But the day of December 3, 1983 was his last... The combat group was ambushed during a raid, dushmans began to surround it, and the decision was made to retreat. The group managed to escape the shelling, but Private Korobov and two guys who caused fire on themselves died.

For courage and heroism, Sergei Viktorovich was posthumously awarded the Order of the Red Star and the “Internationalist Warrior” medal. “Whoever has not been outside his homeland does not know its value” - this was written in Sergei Korobov’s notebook, which was given to his mother.

The honorary right to open the memorial plaque was given to the chairman of the district executive committee Dmitry Martinovich, the chairman of the RO NGO “Belarusian Union of War Veterans in Afghanistan” Mikhail Korzo and the sister of the deceased hero Svetlana Viktorovna. The name of the heroically deceased Sergei Korobov is now immortalized on black granite.

Years will pass, but the exploits will remain forever. Today's youth are proud to study at the school where Sergei Korobov once studied. A 10th grade student and future conscript Trofim Bavtrushov assured that memory is stronger than granite and will forever remain in people’s hearts.

The memory of the fallen soldiers was honored with a minute of silence.
