A new section of the southwestern bypass of Mogilev was opened

30 June 2023

A new section of the southwestern bypass of Mogilev - the M15 highway - with a length of more than 12 km, was solemnly opened, the press service of the Development Bank reported.

In 2022, the Development Bank allocated Br63.87 million to finance a large-scale project, which amounted to more than 42% of the total investment costs for the project. The bypass road is 90% cement concrete pavement. The width of the roadbed is 14 m. There are two traffic lanes, roadsides and reinforced stopping lanes, as well as three artificial structures: two bridges (the largest one across the Dnieper) and an overpass across the railway crossing.

Vladimir Yankovsky , head of the Mogilev branch of the Development Bank , noted that the financing of infrastructure projects is one of the main activities of any development institution. “The Development Bank takes an active part in the formation of a modern and efficient national transport and road complex of the country. Roads, bridges, airports - such objects are extremely important for the economy of any state. The level of development of the transport infrastructure serves as a kind of indicator of external investment attractiveness and largely influences the decision of foreign investors to come to a particular region,” he said.

The highway covers Mogilev in a semicircle in the direction from south to southwest at a distance of 20 km from the city center, provides a complete closure of the ring around Mogilev and redistributes transit traffic from the street network to it, which reduces the level of pollution of atmospheric air, soil and vegetation in the city, and also reduces the rate of traffic accidents. “In addition, the new route provides transport links for passenger and cargo flows of the left-bank part of Mogilev, including the Mogilev SEZ, with the capital and Bobruisk, which significantly reduces user costs. It became the last missing link in the ring road of the regional center, connecting the Bobruisk and Gomel highways. The total length of the ring is now 77.9 km. Thus, Mogilev became the second “ringed” city after the capital”,

The first traffic on the constructed section of the southwestern bypass of Mogilev for transit traffic was opened on December 1, 2022. The estimated traffic intensity for a 20-year perspective along the southwestern bypass of Mogilev will be from 5,640 to 5,720 vehicles per day.
