Belarus' total grain harvest at about 9.5m tonnes in 2023

20 November 2023

All kinds of agricultural enterprises gathered in about 9.5 million tonnes of grain, including rapeseed, in Belarus in 2023. The top grain producers are Brest Oblast, Grodno Oblast, and Minsk Oblast. Four districts in each oblast gathered in more than 100,000 tonnes of grain per district, the Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA.

Belarusian farmers have successfully passed their trials by growing and collecting enough grain to ensure food security and successful development of the animal husbandry industry.

The best grain yield was secured in Grodno Oblast – 46 centners per hectare, 14 centers per hectare above the country's average. In Grodno District agricultural enterprises gathered in more than 240,000 tonnes of grain, with the grain yield at 84 centners per hectare. The production cooperative named after V.I. Kremko in Grodno District is one of the leaders, with its grain yield at 117 centners per hectare. High grain yields were also reported in the agricultural production cooperative Svisloch in Grodno District (112 centners per hectare), the agricultural branch Protasovshchina in Shchuchin District (111 centners per hectare), and the agricultural production cooperative Grodnensky in Grodno District (110 centners per hectare).

Belarus secured a record-high yield of rape oilseeds in 2023 for the first time ever: over 1 million tonnes in bunker weight terms. The undisputed leader is the agricultural production cooperative Grodnensky in Grodno District (72.9 centners per hectare).

The Agriculture and Food Ministry mentioned an increase in the gross harvest of grain maize. It exceeded 2 million tonnes this year. Over 5 million tonnes of sugar beet has been collected. Potato production remains high. The top performers reported yields in excess of 600 centners per hectare. Those are OAO Gastellovskoye in Minsk District, Agrokombinat Snov in Nesvizh District, and the production cooperative named after V.I. Kremko in Grodno District.
