Belarusian manufacturers urged to look beyond the horizon

Industrial production in Belarus has been growing, but it is important to have vision and purpose, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a large meeting to discuss the country’s manufacturing outlook at the Palace of Independence on 9 April, BelTA has learned.

"The government has reported that, in general, the enterprises affiliated with the Industry Ministry have had a steady increase in production volumes over the past few years. In the past three years, the output has grown by almost 40%. Last year was good too. Almost Br30 billion worth of industrial goods was made, which was almost up by 13%," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

According to him, the production of electronics, cars, trucks, and harvesters expanded significantly. Planar, Integral and BelOMO have an intake of export orders for the current year and partially for 2025.

"But how are things at other industrial giants? Why have the production volumes of refrigerators, tractors, loaders, and engines decreased? Bobruiskagromash sank by more than a quarter. The capacities of Minsk Bearing Plant were utilized by only 12% in 2023," the president noted. “We have many years of experience in the machine tool industry, which is the most important industry in any industrial economy. What is the situation here today? Where are modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and robotics? It is them that ensure high accuracy and productivity in material processing, saving resources, reducing costs and product quality."

"We do not use them. But the saddest thing is that there is no vision of the future. Therefore, I am waiting for specific proposals from you on how we will remedy the situation," the head of state outlined one of the tasks.
