Meetings with young Belarusians important for looking into future, Lukashenko says

As he met with students of Vitebsk Oblast higher education institutions during a Q&A session titled as “Open microphone with the president” on 2 September, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko explained why such meetings are important for him, BelTA has learned.

The head of state stressed that the event was important for him. “This meeting is very important for me. I’ve decided to meet with representatives, students of our higher education institutions this year in order to tell them, in order for them to feel concerns of the country in an open conversation,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The president explained that as a person with great power who makes key decisions on Belarus’ development, it was also important for him to get feedback from representatives of the university student community, to learn their mood and aspirations of this part of the Belarusian society. “I have felt what your concerns are. And you are the future. It means I have got the feeling of the future of our country,” the head of state noted.

In conclusion of the meeting the president received a gift from the entire Vitebsk Oblast university student community: a handmade chess set made of oak. The chess pieces symbolize the history of the Western Dvina River area. As it was promised, the chess set will be put on display in the Palace of Independence where other gifts given to the Belarusian head of state by foreign leaders, political and public figures, prominent individuals, worker collectives of enterprises and organizations of the country are also stored.
